I feel that if I don't paint, I would be a good actor. When I paint the physical world, I feel like a particle, exploring a brand new world. When I paint the psychological world, I seem to enter the state of the objects I'm painting and experience their next actions.

Exhibition Day: 2024.6.21 - 7.24
Tang Contemporary Art, Hong Kong Central Space
Our brains, like a blank universe of memories, experiences, and feelings are connected to each other. Sparks of inspiration will ignite these fragments, allowing isolated events to form an ever-expanding web, chasing the boundaries of thought.

In Li Erpeng’s world, “expansion” covers the relationship between the works, allowing the creation of different “worldviews” to form the artist’s language. The artist’s journey of “Expansion”, from works to personal feelings, constantly amplifies the resonance with everyone, and we will see the artist’s “self-anatomy” from shallow to deep.

Human beings are unable to share experiences, so they break them down into fragments and create powerful two-dimensional images. In this way, the most abstract emotion “expands” and radiates to a rich group of people. In a sufficiently tense image, we only need to mobilize our ability to empathize with the work, and then we can feel the power of expanding thoughts.

War, aging, and death
are like an iceberg coming straight towards us,
inevitable and inescapable.

The world is a network of relationships.
relationships that shape our existence and give meaning to our lives.

As a young artist of the post-95 generation, Li Erpeng brings a unique perspective and keen insights to the exploration of relationships in the contemporary world - from the physical to the psychological realm.

Control

Imagining forms of life is a source of creative inspiration for Li Erpeng. He transfers living things invented in his mind onto the canvas, representing them as soft, energetic forms in primary colors. Relationships between objects that do not offer any clear references serve as metaphors, and perceptions that are distant from everyday objects are depicted through these heterogeneous relationships to build a deeper synesthesia in the works. Li believes, “For viewers, my work is like an AR mirror—people are able to see meanings wrapped around their bodies.”
